Consumers seem to need to be assured that they are getting the service or product that they expect. I was in the automated car wash the other day and realized that they went to specific efforts to distinguish each product (deluxe cleaner, wax and RainX) with colored dyes so that I could be assured I was really getting all options I had paid for. It is like the ATM where there is all this clicking a whirring sound, just to let us know that it is working, but in truth, the equipment is capable of being completely silent, but then, how would we know how fervently it is working to fulfill our request?
